Women's Development BRDB
with its mainstream activities and development projects, prioratised women's development
by under taking program and projects. At
present Board is implementing following two projects for women:
Integrated Rural Women Development Program(IRWDP). This
program popularly known as Women's program of BRDB aims at social and economic empowerment
of women with priority on poverty alleviation along with population control. The main
objectives are :
i) To organised rural poor women into co-operatives for
their participation in the socio-economic activities.
ii) To improve the attitude, knowledge and skill of rural
women through training.
iii) To provide micro-credit to the co-operative members
for under taking different IGAs and developing women entrepreneuship in the rural areas.
The project is financed out of GOB budget and enrolled about 0.25 million rural women
in 130 thanas of 49 districts of the country. Up to June 1998 women co-operators have
accumulated an amount of Taka 110.7 million as share and savings. The project is under
implementation since 1975 and has invested Taka 615.263 million as loans to women members
and the recovery rate is 91%. A large number of women are given training on social
mobilization, awareness, skill development, health and nutrition and family planning
.Under the family planing activities out of 0.159 million eligible couple about 0.128
million i.e. 81% of member are adopting different family planing methods.
